Residential Storage Initiative

Improving Resilience

Given the prevalence of wildfires in California, PG&E sometimes has to shut off power in high-threat areas to protect customer safety. Knowing how difficult it is to be without power, PG&E partnered with RHA to launch the Residential Storage Initiative, installing home backup battery systems for customers most vulnerable to these outages. The batteries power customers’ important circuits and appliances for four to six hours – the length of an average safety-related outage.

As the program implementer, RHA engages and enrolls at-risk customers identified by PG&E, obtains necessary permits for battery installation, manages installation subcontractors and provides installation support.
