Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE), a Community Choice Energy agency, has centered much of its work on encouraging and supporting building electrification among residential and building customers as a part of its goal to address climate change. As a result, they enlisted RHA to create electrification resources to support building officials, contractors and consumers with key issues affecting the installation of efficient electric technology.
The resources included a Best Practices Guide for Siting Mechanical Equipment, offering cities research-backed solutions for updating municipal codes impacting siting locations for mechanical equipment, such as condensing units for air conditioners and heat pumps. RHA also created Service Optimization Guides for Building Officials and Contractors to provide actionable information to minimize unnecessary electrical service upgrades while ensuring public safety and code compliance in retrofit projects. Lastly, RHA developed an Informational Sheet for Consumers to help them understand their electrical service panel options when electrifying their homes.
