Portable Battery Program

Supporting Vulnerable Californians During Power Shutoffs

In regions prone to wildfires, temporary power shutoffs are needed to prevent electrical infrastructure from sparking fires. Recognizing power outages pose significant challenges to customers who rely on medical and assistive technology, PG&E partners with RHA to administer the Portable Battery Program.

The Portable Battery Program provides backup batteries to medically vulnerable customers who have experienced emergency or public safety power shutoff events previously. These batteries power medical and other equipment during power shutoffs. RHA provides battery procurement, customer outreach and assessment, battery delivery and contractor and customer support.
